Top Five Vegan Desserts

Making the choice to go vegan can help prevent cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, and even some types of cancer. Vegan diets are full of dietary fiber, magnesium, vitamin C, folic acid, iron, and many other nutrients that help support a healthy lifestyle. As a vegan, you’ll also consume fewer calories, saturated fat, and cholesterol, but that doesn’t mean you have to skip dessert! Here are five delicious vegan recipes to satisfy your sweet tooth.

  1. Banana Ice Cream This simple recipe is a great healthy alternative to a sugary classic. Simply slice and blend one or two ripe organic bananas (or use a food processor) and add 1-2 tablespoons of organic shredded coconut. Mix in a teaspoon of ground cinnamon and half a cup of organic almonds and continue blending until you’ve got an ice cream consistency. You can view the full recipe here.
  2. Raw Coconut Lime Pie Vegan and gluten free, this coconut lime pie is perfect for spring weather! This recipe takes a little time to prepare, but the end result is definitely worth it. The crust is prepared by combining pitted dates, shredded coconut, coconut flour, and water as needed in your food processor. The filling is prepared with soaked raw cashews, coconut butter, limes, vanilla extract, coconut nectar and stevia drops for a tart, creamy center. This part of the recipe also calls for soft silken tofu, which I recommend replacing with soaked chickpeas puréed to mimic the texture. While fermented soy products may be nutritionally beneficial in some cases, they’re typically highly processed and may cause more side effects than you know.   3. Mini Mint Chocolate Cheesecake This recipe is perfect for having friends over or keeping a quick sweet snack ready to grab. The crust for this vegan dessert is made with Medjool dates, almonds, gluten-free oats, and vanilla extract. The creamy cheesecake layer combines cashews, vanilla, mint, apple cider vinegar, agave nectar, spirulina, almond milk and coconut oil.   4. Snickerdoodles These healthy cookies are vegan, gluten free, and paleo friendly. To make the cookies, you’ll simply mix almond flour, coconut flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, and cinnamon. Then, stir in coconut oil, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, mix together coconut sugar and cinnamon to create the classic sweet coating. After that, they only take 15 minutes to bake! You can see the full recipe here!
  5. Blueberry Mini Muffins This vegan recipe is a great option for an on-the-go snack or a simple sweet addition to your breakfast. It calls for wheat spelt flour, baking powder, organic blueberries, soy milk, maple syrup, and agave nectar. The original recipe (which you can view here) also calls for vegetable oil, but I recommend swapping this with coconut oil for additional health benefits such as helping to improve the digestive system.
